Luther King is hiring!

We are looking for a Night Porter to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of guests during the night, provide a welcoming presence at reception, and carry out cleaning, monitoring, and administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the hotel outside regular hours.

Wed, Thurs, Fri & Saturday night are required at present – approx 33 hours although we are happy to meet candidates who may want to explore flexible working hours
Sunday to Thursday night – 11.00pm – 7.30pm including a 30 minute break (unpaid) Friday & Saturday night – 11.00pm – 8.00pm including a 30 minute break (unpaid)

Guest Service & Reception

  • Provide a warm welcome to arriving guests and assist with late check-ins.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest enquiries or requests throughout the night.
  • Maintain a calm and reassuring presence, handling any concerns or disturbances appropriately.
  • Support guests with luggage, directions, and general information about the hotel and local area.

Safety & Security

  • Monitor the premises to ensure the safety and security of guests, staff, and hotel property.
  • Conduct regular security patrols of the building, car park, and grounds.
  • Manage emergencies or incidents in accordance with hotel procedures (e.g., fire alarms, first aid).
  • Ensure all entrances are secure and access is controlled during night hours.

Cleaning & Housekeeping Support

  • Prepare meeting rooms for the following days business (will include changing room layout, moving tables and chairs)
  • Carry out scheduled night cleaning tasks in meeting rooms, public areas and back‑of‑house spaces.
  • Assist housekeeping by preparing linen, restocking supplies, or tidying shared areas.

Administration & Night Audit Support

  • Complete basic reception tasks such as answering the phone, responding to emails, and updating guest records.
  • Prepare handover notes for the daytime team.
  • Assist with basic night audit procedures, if required (training provided).

General Duties

  • Set up breakfast areas or early-morning breakfast service when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the reception and lobby areas.
  • Support other departments where appropriate to ensure smooth overnight operations.

Essential:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic IT skills (email, booking systems, telephone)
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in unexpected situations
  • Confidence in handling security-related tasks
  • Comfortable working night hours on a lone-working basis
  • Physically able to undertake light cleaning, carrying items, and moving around the building
  • Flexibility to work weekends, bank holidays, and provide holiday cover as needed.
  • Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality

Desirable:

  • First aid or Fire Warden training
  • Experience in hospitality or customer service
