We are seeking a new member of our Audit & Risk Committee, supporting our leadership team to ensure that decisions are values-driven and financially sustainable. Luther King’s Audit & Risk Committee is responsible for oversight of the external audit process and identifying key strategic, financial, and non-financial risks to the Board. This role is voluntary, but expenses will be reimbursed where applicable.

About the role
Luther King House Educational Trust is a provider of ecumenical, theological higher education & ministerial development. We aim to continue our rich tradition of making theological education relevant and accessible to all into the future. Alongside our work as a provider of theological learning, we run a professional conference centre and accommodation business, which both serve clients such as community and church group and therapeutic organisations.
As a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, you will have the chance to apply your skills to influence key decisions, strengthen our governance, and help us deliver our higher education and hospitality services. You will work closely with our Finance Manager to provide oversight of our financial audit processes for business continuity, upholding our mission along the way.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure that robust audit processes are in place for the educational charity and its hospitality subsidiary
- Monitor risk management, business continuity, and legal compliance.
- Support the Finance department through any tendering process.
- Work with the appointed external auditors to draw up an annual audit plan, highlighting areas of particular risk and agreeing the practical arrangements for the annual audit.
- To receive and review a formal report from the external auditors, taking particular note of any qualifications to the accounts, as well as any significant audit risks identified.
- Provide the Board with an annual risk register and necessary associated reports.
- Uphold Luther King’s mission and provide strong governance support and insights to the Committee.
Essential experience:
- Significant knowledge of or experience in one or more of the following:
- Finance & Investment management
- Strategic risk management
- Financial audit
- Legal, HR and governance
- A strong commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life
- Strong communication skills and proactive approach to discussions.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement while thinking strategically.
- Experience in the charity, hospitality or higher education sector would be an advantage but is not essential. We welcome candidates from the public, private or third sector who can bring an independent audit & risk perspective.
